Basic Combat Training (BCT) prepares you for service by teaching essential military knowledge and skills.
STRUCTURE.
Basic Combat Training is organized into four progressive phases designed to build your knowledge, skills, and confidence. Each phase focuses on a specific area of training and prepares you for the next step. By completing all four phases and passing the final written exam, you demonstrate your understanding of the core concepts required to successfully finish BCT.
PHASE 1
Learn the Chain of Command, military customs, base installations, standards, and basic drill.

PHASE 2
Learn how to read maps, use a compass, and navigate using grid coordinates.

PHASE 3
Participate in practical training such as gate duties, shooting range procedures, and scenario-based exercises.

FINAL EXAMINATION
Complete a written exam covering material from all phases of training.
