Here’s all you need to know about taking the first step towards becoming an enlisted Guardsman or a commissioned Officer in the National Guard.

Enlisted Guardsmen

As an enlisted Guardsman, you’ll help perform day-to-day operations in your career field and help ensure the success of your unit’s mission.

Commissioned Officers

As a commissioned Officer, you’ll be a leader who makes important decisions and is responsible for the safety of Guardsmen.

STEP 01

Submit your application

Submit an application when enlistment opens.

STEP 02

Choose a contract

On your application, choose the contract you like most.

STEP 03

Pass the four application stages

Before acceptance you must pass four stages: Preliminary Check, Application Review, Background Check and Final Outcome.

STEP 04

Finish Basic Combat Training

Complete three phases and a final examination.

Complete unit-specific training

Depending on your contract, you may be required to complete additional training after BCT. But don't worry, these are usually much quicker.

Commissioned Officers are the leaders who guide and oversee missions while leading others.

Officer Candidate School

You’ll go through training in OCS to ensure you’re prepared to successfully lead others. Training is self-paced, consisting of 4 phases of advanced classroom instruction and 3 assessments.

Direct Commission

Leverage your professional experience by earning a direct commission, which promotes you directly to an Officer rank. At this time, only Judge Advocate jobs are eligible for Direct Commissions.

Requirements to join the Army.

Enlisted Soldiers train in their chosen career and are the doers making a difference every day.

To qualify for enlistment in the National Guard, you must meet the following enlistment regulations:

✓ Must be within the State of Mayflower / Mayflower National Guard Discord

✓ No MNG-related blacklists

✓ No MNG-related dishonorable discharge within the past 4 months

✓ No more than five recorded offenses of any type record

✓ No felonies on record

✓ No more than two non-violent misdemeanors

✓ Must have your inventory open

✓ Must request to the National Guard group
